James McLaughlin-McDermott

...is a theatre artist from Brooklyn, NY. James holds a degree in Theatre & Performance from the Theatre Arts Conservatory at SUNY Purchase College, with concentrations in acting and directing. He was also the Artistic Director of the (retired) theatre collective: Gratify Theatre Works. Through the collective he directed plays such as Betrayal and Conscious Inertia(original play). James has had lead, as well as supporting and background roles in several productions. These include, but not limited to: Antigone with Classical Remix, Men Are Dogs with Narrows Community Theater, Evita(off-off-Broadway) with The Gallery Players, and Psychosis 4.48 with Wirehead Collective. FILM: Law & Order SVU, Straight Line(French short-film), and Indy with Second Gear Films. While singing professionally in the past with the Global Media Music production company, and having over 15 years of dance training- James is no stranger to performing. His other passion however, is teaching. James is a Paraprofessional at P.S. 264 The Bay Ridge Elementary School for the Arts, and Resident Assistant Director to the school’s Drama Department (Winnie The Pooh KIDS, Cinderella KIDS, The Lion King KIDS). James has also worked as a teaching artist with companies such as Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts (Journey of Hope, Underneath Egypt), NIA Community Services Network, Dimensions On Stage/In Dance, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, and The Y. Now, James is thrilled to be part of the Classical Remix theatre collective, and work with such talented artists. It brings him great joy to be involved a community that shares the same passions of theatre.
